About AL LERMAN
Considered one of the top harp players in the country,
multi-instrumentalist AL LERMAN is a journeyman musician who plays with
sizzle and a whole lot of soul. He’s garnered several MAPLE BLUES AWARD
nominations for both his harp and saxophone playing, as well as his
song-writing. He’s founder and leader of the the popular 2X JUNO AWARD
winning blues outfit FATHEAD, and spends his down-time involved in a
variety of other musical projects. As a sideman (and sometimes
producer) he has appeared on several recordings with the likes of famed
Chicago bluesmen Willie “Big Eyes” Smith and Little Mack Simmons, as
well as solid contributions to discs by Rick Fines, Mel Brown, Julian
Fauth, Rita Chiarelli, and Morgan Davis. When FATHEAD is not on the
road, Al can be found working with a variety of top notch musicians as
either a sideman or fronting; singing the blues, blowing harp, sax, and
playing a little guitar too. You can always expect some downhome blues,
soul and R&B that shoots straight from the heart.
Al is also involved in teaching harmonica through private lessons &
workshops. For the past several years he has offered an introductory
blues harp course, available through the Toronto District School
Board's Continuing Education night school program. (ON THE LIGHTER

TIPS") “Harpist Al Lerman is outstanding! " -Blues Revue (USA) “... a
driving instrumental fronted by Lerman, whose amplified harp deftly
pushes the proceedings throughout”. -Living Blues (USA)
“Special note must be made of Al Lerman who blows a mighty mean harp.”
-Rock & Blues News (UK)
“... a set that featured plenty of virtuoso harmonica playing from Al
Lerman” -Globe & Mail (Canada)
Fathead is a joyful sounding 5 piece band. Lerman's 1950's style
Chicago harp was obviously influenced by Carey Bell. On "Bitter When
I'm Old", his brilliant harp creates a classic Fathead sound. -Blues
